Report from Sons of the Legion Commander Jerry Netherland: The “Sons” were able to assist in a variety of ways with other Legion programs, events, and services throughout 2016. “Son” and Legionnaire, Bruce Alford, was instrumental in expanding training and service by the Post Honor Guard. He also planned, organized, and executed a Fall work day at the Post. Legionnaires, Boy Scout Troop 710 and Bruce worked hard on numerous landscaping chores around the Post building to include putting down fresh mulch and trimming trees and bushes.
The “Sons” presented a donation to the Patrick Henry Family Services organization as part of the Detachment Commander’s special project for 2016. Patrick Henry Family Services helps children who are in need of services across the Commonwealth. Goochland Squadron was proud to donate and be part of this important organization.
In 2017 the Sons of Goochland Squadron are endeavoring to assist Liberation Family Services as they “provide food, shelter, and the power to change for people in crisis”, namely Veterans referred to them by the Veterans Administration. The “Sons” will be gathering donated items such as clothing, non-perishable food, and other supplies (dependent upon the needs of the organization) The plan will be to pick up donated items at each Legion monthly meeting and transport them shortly thereafter to LFS.
